Free product cost sheet template
Published by Cydney Mar Last updated: November 2026
This free product cost sheet template is a CSV file that opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers, with formulas already in place.
The Cost Sheet template, published by Cydney Mar, lists the eleven cost lines most consumer products carry, totals them into a landed cost per unit, then turns your target margin into a selling price, gross profit and markup. Replace the example figures with your own supplier quotes.
Is there a product costing calculator in Excel?
Yes: download the template below and open it in Excel. It works as a product costing calculator in Excel or any spreadsheet app, because the totals and price are live formulas. Prefer to work in the browser? The product costing calculator does the same math without a download.

Variable costing and unit product cost
What is variable costing unit product cost?
Variable costing counts only the costs that rise with each unit: direct materials, direct labor and variable overhead. Fixed costs such as rent stay out of the unit cost and are paid from the margin. The Cost Sheet template uses this per unit view, which suits founders comparing quotes and channels.
Absorption costing, used in some financial statements, also spreads fixed manufacturing overhead across units. Your accountant may report that figure; for pricing decisions, the variable unit cost is the clearer floor.
Why spreadsheets still matter
A spreadsheet keeps a record of each quote, so you can compare suppliers side by side and see exactly which line moved when a price changes. Save one copy per supplier quote and per order quantity. When your factory updates a price, you change one cell and every total and price follows.
How to fill in the cost sheet
Save a copy per quote
One file per supplier and order quantity keeps comparisons clean.
Replace every example figure
Enter 0 for lines that truly do not apply, never leave them blank.
Spread batch costs
Divide freight, testing and samples by the units in the order.
Set your margin as a decimal
Enter 0.60 for 60%. The price, profit and markup update automatically.
Common questions
See all 48 questions in the FAQWhat should a product cost sheet include?
A product cost sheet should include every per unit cost: main materials, trims and components, labor or assembly, packaging, labels and tags, inbound freight, duties and tariffs, testing, samples spread per unit, a waste allowance, and fulfillment if you sell direct. The free template on The Cost Sheet lists these lines with formulas for landed cost and price.
Is there a product costing calculator in Excel?
The Cost Sheet offers a free product cost sheet template as a CSV file that opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. It lists the common cost lines for a consumer product and includes formulas that total your landed cost and turn a target margin into a selling price. Download it from the cost sheet template page.
What is a variable costing unit product cost calculator?
A variable costing unit product cost calculator counts only the costs that rise with each unit made: direct materials, direct labor and variable overhead. Fixed overhead such as rent is left out of the unit cost and treated as a period expense. Absorption costing, by contrast, spreads fixed manufacturing overhead across units. The Cost Sheet calculator works on a variable, per unit basis.
What is landed cost?
Landed cost is the full cost of a unit once it arrives at your warehouse, ready to sell. It is the factory price plus inbound freight, insurance, duties and tariffs, brokerage and any handling fees. Pricing from the factory price alone is a common mistake, because freight and duties can change your margin noticeably once the goods actually arrive.
Which currency does the calculator use?
The calculator works in any currency as long as every figure you enter uses the same one. Results are shown with a dollar sign for readability. If a supplier quotes in a different currency, convert each quote at a realistic rate first, and consider adding a small allowance for exchange rate movement.
How accurate is the calculator?
The arithmetic is exact, but the result is only as accurate as the costs you enter. It is an estimate for planning, not a financial, legal or tax decision. Use real supplier quotes, include freight and duties, and confirm final numbers with your accountant or a product development professional before committing to a price.
